Coaching upwards

Something that's useful in my job!

Does the boss know best? Not necessarily in today's fast changing world of flatter structures and cross-functional working.

What skills do you need to coach upwards, amongst other, the following are important:

• know what it is that you want to acieve and why
• use your knowledge of the individual and your personal judgement of how best to approach them
• make sure they have confidence in you as a credible person
